I am married to Glenys, who works at the Hospital as receptionist in the Emergency Department. We have three grown children. Hayley, who teaches in Melbourne, Jonathan who is currently teaching English in Shanghai, and Timothy who lives and works in Auckland. He is an artist / musician / bar-manager.
Glenys and I live on a lifestyle block in Meeanee, which I potter around on. Being born and bred in Hawke’s Bay we love the lifestyle here. Most weekends you will find me at a cafe or following some other sedentary pursuit. Reading, walking, an occasional bike ride along the cycleways, catching up with friends and a bit of travel fill in any extra time.
It’s a full on job as Principal but so fulfilling. Helping everyone reach their potential is a dream job. We have fantastic staff and children who help make this school our “Happy Place.” I am supported by a Board of Trustees who are passionate about the vision of the school and creating an environment where children learn and have fun doing it.
My name is Aimee Davis. I am excited about joining the Poukawa School community in 2018, as the Deputy Principal, and Year 7/8 classroom teacher.
I have three children, two of which are still at home. My eldest is Jovaan who lives in Taranaki with his fiance. Ezra is my second child who will be starting school at Poukawa as a Year One. My youngest daughter, Rhea, is 18 months old and currently attending child care. My partner, Drew, works at Silverfern Farms, Takapau.
I am Hawke’s Bay born and very loyal and proud about my hometown. I am very passionate about literacy, gymnastics, rugby, leadership and career development. Outside of school I enjoy treks, the beach, time with family, reading, watching movies, athletics and boxing.
I look forward to meeting you in person this year, and working with your children.

I began my teaching adventure in 1992 with many different roles including Teacher Aide, Kohanga Reo, Pre-school, Daycare and Teacher. I have an Early Years qualification which allows me to teach from age 0-8 years. I firmly believe that children in the early years learn best through play and it is my responsibility to weave the curriculum into their play.
I have three fabulous children of my own and enjoy watching and supporting them in their many interests. A keen sports person, I also dabble in netball for fitness and social interactions as well as yoga to help me deal with the challenges of a full-on but enjoyable job.
I love being a part of our fantastic school and look forward to meeting new families who also think our school is pretty cool.
Born in Ohio, USA, my family emigrated to New Zealand when I was 6 years old. Raised in Palmerston North, I have, since married, also lived in Papua New Guinea as well as Canada and have taught in a number of cities and towns around NZ, including the Manawatu, Bay of Plenty, Auckland and now, Hawkes Bay.
Married to Paul, (previously a teacher but now a psychotherapist) we have 5 children between us as well as two sons-in-law and one grandson, so life is full. We are actively involved in a local church and love spending time with people, but also enjoy spending time in beautiful places, walking and enjoying the incredible scenery that NZ has to offer. When we get the chance, we love to escape and go touring on our 1200cc motorbike.
To relax I enjoy going to shows and jazz concerts but am also blissfully happy curled up with a good book and a cuppa, doing a jigsaw puzzle or pottering in the garden. I also love singing and have been in a number of choirs over the years, but am not involved in one at present. To keep fit I have started attending Zumba classes again, though am still discovering muscles I’d forgotten I had!
I started teaching at Poukawa School in 2009, predominantly in the Year 3-4 class but more recently at the Year 2-3 level. I also teach Reading Recovery and get a real buzz out of seeing children begin to shine as they experience success in literacy. My passion in the classroom is Maths and I delight in watching connections being made in those little heads! I love the family atmosphere of a small school and the whacky sense of humour that is a feature of our entire staff keeps us all sane and smiling. We may be a crazy bunch but we are also a passionate bunch and we are committed to doing everything we can to bring out the best in every child who comes here.
In 2010 I arrived in Hawke’s Bay and was fortunate enough to become involved with Poukawa School. Needless to say I fell in love with the way the teachers care about the kids and decided to send my own children here. I have taught a wide range of age groups (both here in NZ and in the UK) and love seeing children find their strengths and talents.
Outside of school hours, I enjoy spending time with my family, playing and exploring in the outdoors, tramping and on occasion participating in the odd run or mud slide. Netball is another physical activity which I enjoy, however although the mind is still willing, from time to time the body tends to disagree!
Hi, I am very excited to be starting at Poukawa School in 2018 as the Year 5/6 teacher. Married to Tony and having 4 children and 3 grandchildren means an interesting home life! My dad lives with us and we usually have an international student who attends Hastings Girls with my youngest daughter. I love animals, socialising, music and travelling. We live in what is affectionately known as the Frimley Zoo and I enjoy having animals as part of my classroom. My background is in nursing and counselling with a wee bit of ambulance on the side but then decided to go teaching with that being the most intense and rewarding career so far.I have been teaching for the last ten years in CHB and Hastings and enjoy all topics but have a talent for the Arts and Digital Education. I look forward to singing, dancing and dramatically continuing to educate all students to be the best they can, at this gorgeous country school.
After teaching in Wellington for several years I left my teaching position as my husband and I started our family with the birth of our daughter in 2012. We then moved up to Hawke‘s Bay to be closer to family in 2013. Since moving back to Hawke’s Bay, I have taught in part time, relieving and short term roles as well as completing my Master of Education through Victoria University.
I am really looking forward to getting back into full time teaching and a class of my own this year! I am passionate about teaching art and excited about incorporating play based learning into the classroom.
Outside of teaching I enjoy spending time with family and friends, enjoying our beautiful Hawke’s Bay weather (although I have to admit to struggling on some of the really hot days!). I also love to read, bake and cook!
I look forward to getting to know you and your children over the course of 2018!
